Samsung Pay for Credit Cards
About Samsung Pay
Samsung Pay allows you to make in-store payments of under $100, simply by swiping up with your device and holding it near the EFTPOS reader. For payments over $100, you will be required to enter your card PIN at the retailer’s terminal. For Suncorp Bank customers, Samsung Pay is only available with our Suncorp Bank Clear Options Credit Card. Every purchase requires an iris, fingerprint or PIN to complete the transaction.
You can also add loyalty cards to your Samsung wallet and you can set up your default transport card there too, using it to top-up and travel for NSW services, including buses, trains, ferries and light rail.
To see if your device is compatible, head to the Samsung Pay website. Otherwise, check out our step-by-step guide on how to set up Samsung Pay and add your card.
All Suncorp Bank Clear Options Credit cards can be used with Samsung Pay. Suncorp Bank Visa Debit and EFTPOS cards are not currently accepted.
Samsung Pay Set-up
Samsung Pay is compatible with a range of Samsung phones and wearables. To see if your device is compatible, head to the Samsung website.
You can set up Samsung Pay on your compatible device via the following steps. It’s important to note that Samsung Pay is only available for our Suncorp Bank Clear Options Credit Card, not Visa Debit or EFTPOS cards.
- Open the Samsung Pay App on your phone, sign in to your Samsung account and tap ‘Start’.
- Choose your verification method (iris, fingerprint or PIN) and authenticate.
- Place your Suncorp Bank Clear Options Credit Card on flat surface, tap ‘Add card’ and position your card in the frame to scan. Alternatively, you can enter your details in manually.
- Read and accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Notice.
- You’ll receive a secure code via SMS or email to verify your bank card. Enter the code when it prompts you and select ‘Submit’.
- Using your finger, write your signature on the screen and tap ‘Save’.
If you’re having trouble setting up or downloading the Samsung Pay app, check if you have a compatible Samsung device with the right software installed.
If you can’t add your card, this FAQ on why your request may have been denied could be helpful.
Go to the Samsung Pay app:
- Select 'Add Card'.
- Put your card on a flat surface. Your device will take a photo of your card in the frame on screen to read the card number. Alternatively, you can enter in your card number manually.
- Follow the instructions on screen to enter in your details.
- Read, understand and accept The Suncorp Bank Terms & Conditions
- Select SMS or Call Issuer option to verify your identity. If you select SMS, Suncorp Bank will send you an Online Activation Code (OAC) via SMS that you will need to enter to continue. You will be asked to use your finger to sign your signature on the screen.
After this, you’ll be ready to use your card with Samsung Pay.
Your request to add your Suncorp Bank Clear Options Credit Card to Samsung Pay may have been denied because:
- the card you’re trying to add has expired or the account is closed.
- you have payments that are past their due dates.
- the card has been reported as lost or stolen.
- the Samsung Pay set up limit of four devices has been reached.
Otherwise, please contact us.
Making transactions with Samsung Pay
You can use Samsung Pay in any retailer that accepts contactless payments. Once you’ve added your card to Samsung Pay, simply swipe up on your phone to begin the transaction.
Samsung Pay uses near field communication (NFC) to connect with the EFTPOS machine, so you don’t need WiFi or the Internet to use it. The same daily spending limits on your Suncorp Bank Clear Options Credit Card apply.
You can’t use Samsung Pay at ATMs. To withdraw money, you’ll need your physical card.
If your card works overseas, you can use Samsung Pay wherever they accept contactless payments around the world. As with any credit card, you may be charged an international transaction fee. For more information on international fees and charges, read our Credit Card Terms and Conditions.
You can register the same card on up to four devices with Samsung Pay. If you’ve requested to set up your card on more devices than this, your request will be denied by Suncorp Bank.
No. Samsung Pay functionality is only available on your credit account linked to your Suncorp Bank Clear Options Credit Card.
Samsung Pay Security
Samsung Pay transactions are secured by a number of security features, including Tokenization, a Secure Environment and Samsung Knox. Tokenization replaces your real payment card information with a device-specific ‘Token’, making sure that your actual details aren’t stored anywhere on your phone. A Secure Environment is a chip in your phone which secures access to highly sensitive information, including your fingerpint and payment information. Samsung Knox then scans your device to see if it’s secure, and can permanently disable a device if it thinks its been compromised.
All purchases then need to be verified by either your fingerprint or a 4-digit PIN.
Your actual card is never stored on your device when using Samsung Pay. Instead, it’s replaced by a unique digital card number each time you add a new card to your device.
If your phone has been lost or stolen, you can use Samsung’s Find My Mobile feature to locate, lock and even wipe your phone remotely. You’ll need to have created a Samsung account and be signed in on your device in order to use it.
Otherwise, please contact us to delete your cards from the Samsung Pay app. You’ll still be able to use your physical Suncorp Bank Clear Options Credit card to make transactions.
Other
You can remove your Suncorp Bank Clear Options credit card from Samsung Pay on your phone and Samsung Gear watch by following these simple steps:
On your phone:
- Open the Samsung Pay app, select the card you want to remove and then tap ‘More’ in the upper-right hand corner of the screen.
- Tap ‘Delete’ to remove it from Samsung Pay.
- Authenticate the request using either your fingerprint, PIN or iris.
If you’ve upgraded your credit card, say to a Suncorp Bank Clear Options Platinum card, you can continue using your old card on Samsung Pay until you’ve activated your new one. Once you’ve done that, your new card will automatically update without you having to do anything, and you’ll receive a new Token.
If your card has expired, you’ll still be able to see it on the Samsung Pay app, but any transactions you try to make may be declined.
The way you return an item you’ve purchased using Samsung Pay depends on the retailer’s policy. Some may ask you to show the last four digits of your Token on your Samsung App, to see if it matches up with the one on the store receipt. To find yours:
- Open up the Samsung Pay app on your phone.
- Tap ‘Menu’ and then ‘Cards’ and select the card you used to pay.
- The Token will be displayed underneath the card.
Other retailers may require you to tap your device on the card reader as you normally would when using Samsung Pay to purchase something in-store.
You can view up to a month of recent transactions made using Samsung Pay:
- Open the Samsung Pay app on your phone.
- Tap ‘Menu’ in the upper left corner, then ‘Cards’.
- Select your desired payment card, then swipe up to see your recent transactions and purchases.
If your card has been greyed out in the Samsung Pay app, this means that your card has been suspended. Please contact us on 13 11 75, or +61 7 3362 1712 if you’re overseas. You can also send us a message using this form.
To suspend or reactivate your card on Samsung Pay, you’ll need to contact us. If you’ve lost your card or it's been stolen, please contact us immediately so we can block your card from further transactions.
To remove your card, you can select the card and click ‘more’ in the upper right-hand corner of the screen.
Then ‘delete’ the payment card to remove it from Samsung Pay, once you authenticate it either with your fingerprint or PIN.
