What is Confirmation of Payee?

Confirmation of Payee is an industry-wide service that provides a new layer of protection against scams and mistaken payments.

It’s now available in the Suncorp Bank App and Internet Banking. There’s no registration or activation required.

When you initiate a payment to a payee using a BSB and account number, Confirmation of Payee matches the bank account details you’ve entered, including the account name, with the details held by the recipient’s bank. 

It then displays a match outcome. 

There are four potential match outcomes

Each match outcome gives you a chance to make an informed decision about what action to take next. You can proceed with the payment, check the details again or choose not to proceed.

Match

The account details entered match the account details held by the payee’s bank.   

Close Match 

The account name entered is a close but not exact match of the account details held by the payee’s bank.  

You can still make the payment. If you’re unsure about the account details, contact the payee to confirm them. It may not be possible to recover funds paid to an incorrect account. 

No Match

The account name entered doesn’t match the account details held by the payee’s bank.     

You can still make the payment but you should contact the payee to confirm their account details. It may not be possible to recover funds paid to an incorrect account.

Error

Potential errors include: 

  • No account found. Check the account details with the intended recipient. 

  • Could not confirm account. Check the account details with the intended recipient.

  • Account is no longer active. Check the account details with the intended recipient. If the account is closed, you cannot proceed with a payment.

Confirmation of Payee helps you be more confident that the payment you’re making is going to the person or business you intended to pay.
