Travelling overseas

Here are some tips for your travels

Get a PIN for your credit card
If you haven’t already, make sure you set up your PIN as merchants in other countries may not accept signatures when authorising transactions paid for by credit cards.

Which overseas ATM should you use?
Make sure that the symbols on the ATM correspond with your card so that you can access the account you want. Remember that additional fees and charges apply.

For access to:
Visa credit and debit cards: use Visa Plus ATMs.

Overseas fees and charges
If you make purchases overseas with your Suncorp Clear Options Credit Card, or withdraw cash from ATMs, fees and charges are applicable. Refer to the fees and charges section to find out more information.

Before you leave Australia
Check the expiry date on all the Cards you are taking with you to ensure they will not expire while you are away. If you need a replacement card, or want to change to a different credit card, contact us on 13 11 55.

Remember to set up your Suncorp Internet Banking before you go, so that you can access your accounts while travelling.

If you’re away for a long time, it may be worth changing to eStatement and setting up direct debit autopay. It will be a convenient way to receive your Credit Card Statement via email, it also ensures that your monthly credit card payment is paid on time and can help avoid unintended late payment fees.

Add Additional Cardholders

With your Suncorp Clear Options Credit Card you can have up to 4 Additional Cardholders linked to your account at no additional cost. It’s a convenient way of making sure your family share the benefits of the Credit Card, as well as an easy way to earn Reward Points if you are enrolled in the Suncorp Credit Card Rewards Program.

We give Additional Cardholders their own card. Any transactions made using these cards will be listed separately on your card statement, so you can easily keep track of who’s spending what. It’s important to know that Additional Cardholders must be aged over 16 and the primary cardholder is responsible for each additional cardholders’ transactions.

To request additional cards on your account, you can either:
Log into Suncorp Internet Banking and click on ‘Go to Credit Card Services’.
Go to Card Services > Additional Cardholder. An OTP will be required. Once on the Additional Cardholder screen you will need to follow the prompts

Call us on 13 11 5513 11 55

Fill in the application form for additional cardholders and pop it in the post.

Manage your Credit Limit

To decrease your Credit Limit

Log into Suncorp Internet Banking and click ‘Go to Credit Card Services’.

Click on Card Services > Credit Limit Decrease. An OTP will be required. Once on the Credit Limit Decrease screen you will need to follow the prompts

You can also call us on 13 11 55 to request this.

It is important to note that your Credit Limit can't be lower than your product minimum and should you wish to reinstate your previous Credit Limit after it is decreased, your application to increase your Credit Limit will be subject to our lending criteria at that time.

  • Platinum Credit Card has a minimum Credit Limit of $6,000
  • Gold Credit Card has a minimum Credit Limit of $5,000
  • Standard Credit Card has a minimum Credit Limit of $2,000

Disputing a transaction

Before you dispute a transaction
It's important to query a transaction yourself before you contact us about a dispute. We also advise that you discuss the transaction with your Additional Cardholder, if you have one. Visa have set rules and timelines for the dispute process, which can sometimes take up to 180 days to resolve.

Compare your receipts and statement
Some merchants may have a different name or location than what’s listed on your statement or on Suncorp Internet Banking. It may help to look at your receipts and see if the amounts charged matches a recent purchase or transaction.

The dates can be different
There can be a delay (sometimes up to 7 days) between when you made the purchase and when it’s posted to your account.

The amount charged shows up differently
This could happen if a purchase is made overseas, or from a merchant that’s located overseas, as the amount may change based on the currency exchange rate for that day. Also, when the purchase is made during public holidays, as some merchants may add surcharges or other transaction fees.

Contact the merchant directly
The merchant may be able to quickly and easily resolve issues like:

  • defective or unsatisfactory products
  • refunds received from the merchant which have not been processed to your account
  • duplicate charges
  • differences in amounts on your receipt and statement
  • non received goods or services

Disputing a transaction
In order for us to act on your behalf we need you to provide us with all the available information and supporting documentation along with the dispute form signed by the Account holder.

Once we receive the completed dispute form and all supporting documentation we will liaise directly with the merchant's bank to request a copy of the transaction voucher (invoice) if appropriate (charges may apply) or a reversal of the charge.

Dispute cases can take up to a maximum of 180 days depending on the nature of the dispute and it is important for you to stay in contact with us and assist with the case until a resolution is achieved.

It’s important to know that ‘unauthorised transactions’ are charges that a cardholder claims to have never authorised. Suncorp must block your card before pursuing the dispute with the merchant's bank.

Closing your Credit Card Account

You are able to request to close your credit card account through:

  • Suncorp Internet Banking Go to Credit Card Services > Card Services > Account Closure Request. An OTP will be required, or
