Direct Debits are often used by many companies nowadays to make it easy for you to pay a bill or subscription.
Below you'll find information on what they are, how they work and how you can stop or cancel a direct debit with a company if you need to.
What are Direct Debits?
Direct debits are used by businesses to collect funds from your account for the value of, for example, insurance premiums, gym memberships, utility bills and repayment of debt. A Direct Debit Request (DDR) will typically cover regular and recurring payments.
When you give a signed Direct Debit Request (DDR) authority to a business (known as the Debit User) they will draw funds out of your nominated Suncorp Bank account to deposit into the Debit User’s nominated account.
Cancelling Direct Debits
Stopping or postponing a Direct Debit
- You can request Suncorp to stop a Direct Debit payment so that a particular payment or few payments are not made.
- You can then have this stop removed and the Direct Debit payment will be automatically reinstated without having to notify the Debit User.
Cancelling a Direct Debit entirely
- If you no longer wish for the Direct Debit payment to be made then you can request us to cancel the direct debit
- If at a later date you wish to recommence the Direct Debit payment, you would need to provide the Debit User with another Direct Debit Request authority.
