What you’ll need when applying online

  1. To be at least 18 years old and a permanent Australian resident (for tax purposes) with an Australian residential address.
  2. A current valid email address that we'll use to send you regular notifications to keep in touch with you on the progress of your application.
  3. Your Tax File Number or Tax Exemption (this is optional – we can always get this from you later, but if you don’t provide it tax may be deducted from the interest earned on the account at the highest marginal rate).
  4. If you’re applying for a joint account (two account holders) both of you will need to be available to apply online.

What's next?

  • Once you've submitted your application we'll return your new BSB and account number straight away so that you're able to start depositing money into your new account.
  • Before you start it's important to know that all account holders must complete the identification process before full access is available on your account^.
  • We'll provide you with options on how you can complete the identification process once you've submitted your application online.

  • You can choose to open a single account or a joint account online.
  • If you’re opening a 55+ account at least one account holder has to be 55 years or older.

Things you should know

We’ll issue you with a Visa Debit card when you apply online for an everyday account.

^Legally the Bank is required to collect your identification information.  If you don't manage to be identified and there is no money in the account, it will automatically close in 60 days from the date your account was opened.
