Suncorp Bank Talks Business at Miles Show

20 May 2015

The integral role rural and regional communities’ play in supporting Australia’s national economy was the key focus at Suncorp Bank’s Inaugural Business Breakfast yesterday (Tuesday, 19 May), hosted at the Miles Showgrounds.

The free community event featured an interactive discussion with Suncorp Bank Head of Treasury Research Darryl Conroy, Digby Makim from Herron Todd White and Allegiant Director, Peter Winterflood.

Suncorp Bank Head of Treasury Research, Darryl Conroy, launched the conversation with his insights on Queensland’s economic outlook following the mining boom.

“As the Queensland mining boom comes to an end, we are seeing the low Australian dollar and generational low interest rates fuel growth in the services sector,” Mr Conroy said.

“This shift is encouraging for the local market as it will open up a range of new business prospects and increase local employment opportunities.

“Cattle growers and producers in the Miles region should also feel encouraged by the rising price of commodities.”

Suncorp Bank Regional Manager, David Littleproud, said he was proud to host such highcalibre speakers to the region.

“It was great to see the wider region come together to share ideas, discuss strategies and gain invaluable learnings from the key speakers,” Mr Littleproud said.

“Darryl Conroy delivered a broad overview of the global and national financial and commodity markets including information on growth forecasts, resource industry trends and the domestic housing market.

“Digby Makim summarised the state of play for the general Australian rural market, outlining influential factors and emerging trends. Digby also provided commentary on the local rural and residential markets, noting early signs of increased confidence particularly in the grazing property market.

“Peter Winterflood raised the importance of communication in this age of digital correspondence, and offered an insiders-view of the agri-banking industry, outlining what factors Banks consider when assessing an application for finance.”

Thanks to the positive response from the Miles community, Suncorp Bank plans to host the Business Breakfast as an annual event in conjunction with the Miles Show.
