As the days get longer, the weather warmer, and the beaches busier, Suncorp Bank is embracing the Queensland summer early by shining a light on the real heroes of the season’s quintessential sport.
From today, cricket communities across Queensland can nominate their local hero for the Suncorp Bank Bulls Masters Community Cricket Volunteer of the Year Award, a prestigious title which recognises the contribution they make to ensuring cricket continues to thrive in their local community.
Suncorp Bank Regional Manager, Brad Steele, said the Bank was thrilled to grow the program in its second year and encouraged Queenslanders to get behind the initiative by nominating a local volunteer.
“Cricket is one of Australia’s favourite pastimes and this program is the perfect platform to acknowledge the role volunteers play in ensuring community cricket continues to live on through the next generation,” Mr Steele said.
“Nominations are open to all volunteers involved with community cricket so if you know of a local cricket hero within your community, help us recognise their hard work by putting their name forward.
“This year we have extended the program to award one overall winner, plus four regional finalists from a $13,000 prize pool, including $5,000 for the winner’s nominated club and an exclusive coaching session with Bulls Masters.”
Bulls Masters Managing Director, Jimmy Maher, said the panel of judges would be looking for hardworking, dedicated volunteers with a passion to develop young talent in their community.
“Every week, hundreds of volunteers donate their time to coach teams, maintain fields, organise raffles, and keep players well hydrated, fed, and inspired. It’s time that these people are recognised and awarded for their efforts,” Mr Maher said.
“Our expert panel, including former cricketers, will be looking at entrant’s long-term commitment and contribution to their club, as well as their overall passion and dedication to the game.
“Many of the Bulls Masters players were supported by hardworking and dedicated volunteers in their early days of cricket and this program helps us give back to the clubs who are fostering the up and coming players who will become the next generation of cricket greats.”
