Nambour hosts the next Oscar-winning film producers

2 March 2015

Students from across the Sunshine Coast swapped their text books for video cameras in Nambour last week at the Queensland Touring Film festival, supported by Suncorp Bank.

The week-long program of free community events saw students of all ages converge at St Joseph’s Primary School to take part in a series of creative workshops including film production and design, which awarded them with invaluable insights into the world of film.

Suncorp Bank Regional Manager for the Sunshine Coast, Dan Dredge, said the event provided students with the opportunity to access a first-class arts program, which is not ordinarily available to them.

“Participation in the arts provides students with the opportunity to explore their imagination and showcase their creativity,” Mr Dredge said.

“Mother Nature hasn’t been kind to our region in recent weeks and the festival was the perfect way to deliver some creative relief to the students and the wider community.

“Suncorp Bank has been a proud sponsor of the Queensland Touring Film Festival for the past year. The festival delivers cultural enrichment to regional communities throughout Queensland, and we are thrilled to be continuing our support with a renewed partnership for another year.”

Queensland Touring Film Festival Director, Jed Cahill, said filmmaking is a fun, powerful tool to help students discover their creative talents, and with the support of companies like Suncorp Bank, QTFF can deliver this opportunity to children in regional and rural areas.

“The festival provides students with the opportunity to experience visual arts and encourages them to explore their own creative skills,” Mr Cahill said.

“Students use their imagination and experiment with new concepts, visual effects and ideas to create their own short films that incorporate visual elements from their own home town.”

Now in its third year, QTFF aims to educate and entertain rural and regional communities throughout Queensland by providing them with access to a free creative visual arts program including workshops and films.

The QTFF will continue its tour through South East Queensland with upcoming workshops on the Gold Coast with students from Currumbin Primary School and Palm Beach Currumbin State School both being involved in the film production workshops.
