Move over Spielberg, Queensland students are coming

5 September 2014

Residents in Kilcoy and Toogoolawah rolled out the red carpet this week for the arrival of the Queensland Touring Film Festival (QTFF), supported by Suncorp Bank.

The free community event saw hundreds of budding film producers and enthusiasts converge at the local schools to take part in a series of creative workshops including film production and design, and experience award winning short films.

Suncorp Bank’s Regional Manager for Central and South West Queensland, Craig Armstrong, said Suncorp Bank was proud to support an event that shared its passion for regional Queensland.

“Suncorp Bank is committed to supporting initiatives that contribute long lasting benefits to communities throughout Queensland, and QTFF is the perfect event to reinforce this commitment,” Mr Armstrong said.

“QTFF delivers cultural enrichment to communities in regional Queensland and we are thrilled to be aligned with the tour as it travels throughout our home state.”

Queensland Touring Film Festival Director, Jed Cahill, said the festival provided students in the community with the opportunity to experience visual arts and encouraged them to explore their own creative skills.

“Students were encouraged to use their imagination and experiment with new concepts, visual effects and ideas to create their own short films that incorporated visual elements from their own home town,” Mr Cahill said.

“Filmmaking is a fun, powerful tool to help students discover their creative talents, and with the support of companies like Suncorp Bank, we can continue to deliver this opportunity to children living in regional and rural areas.”

Now in its second year, the QTFF aims to educate and entertain rural and regional communities throughout Queensland by providing them with access to a free creative visual arts program including workshops and films.

The QTFF arrive in Southern Downs on Monday 10 November, followed by Gladstone, Biloela, Theodore, Moura and the Gold Coast.
