Cricket fever heats up for local heroes

9 February 2015

As cricket enthusiasts across Queensland start the five day countdown to the ICC Cricket World Cup, Suncorp Bank is encouraging cricket communities to nominate their local hero for the Suncorp Bank Bulls Masters Community Cricket Champion of the Year.

The Community Cricket Champion program, a joint-initiative of Suncorp Bank and Bulls Masters, was launched at the start of the summer cricket season in a bid to recognise the contribution made by community cricket volunteers from across the state.

Suncorp Bank Regional Manager for North Queensland, Craig Armstrong, said he was thrilled to be part of an initiative that celebrated the people making a difference in their local community.

“Cricket is one of Australia’s favourite pastimes and this program is the perfect platform to acknowledge the role volunteers plays in ensuring community cricket continues to thrive across Queensland,” Mr Steele said.

“Nominations are open to anyone involved with community cricket. If you know of a local cricket hero within your community, help us recognise their hard work by putting their name forward.”

Queensland Bulls Masters Managing Director, Jimmy Maher, said it was great to see the Bulls Masters’ partnership with Suncorp Bank had identified so many local heroes.

“Many of the Queensland Bulls Masters players are where they are today because of the dedication and support of hardworking volunteers,” Mr Maher said.

“Through the Community Cricket Champion initiative we want to put a spotlight on the people who have made valuable contribution to their community.”

Nominations close Friday, 27 February 2015, with the winner announced on Wednesday, 25 March. The winner will be dubbed the Official Suncorp Bank Bulls Masters Community Cricket Champion and will receive an individual cash prize of $2,000, a $10,000 grant for their cricket club and the chance to have the Queensland Bulls Masters visit their club.
