What steps do I have to take?

Step 1: Let us know as soon as you can

There are a number of ways you can get in contact with us:

When you do get in contact with us, the more information you can provide us, the easier the finalisation of the accounts will be. We will require at least the following:

  • Documentation that formally identifies you (like a copy of your driver's licence, or birth certificate) Here's a list of the Bank’s general ID requirements.
  • Any details of the account(s) held by the deceased that you are aware of
  • Proof of death - this should be the death certificate issued. However, other documents may assist, so please ask us what other proof would be acceptable.
  • If you have a certified copy of the deceased's Will, please provide that as well.


Step 2: We'll get back to you quickly

Upon receiving your notification, the first thing we'll do is place a restraint on all of the accounts of the deceased. No further debits or credits into or out of the accounts will be allowed. Some debts of the deceased/estate may be paid from the account(s) at the Bank’s discretion upon presentation of evidence of that debt to us prior to the account being finalised.

We will review the account(s) the Bank holds and determine what additional documentation we would require to finalise the estate. If we need additional documentation we will let you know without delay.

Step 3: Deliver any remaining documents to a Suncorp Bank branch

  • Once we have received all required documentation and upon the instructions of the executors/administrators/beneficiaries (as the case may be), we will close all accounts and release the funds in accordance with a completed Authority of Release form

We will provide guidance regarding what Bank documentation you will need to complete and return to us to finalise the estate’s accounts.


Step 4 - Finalising the Estate

Once we have received all the required documentation, we'll close all the elected accounts and release the funds therein as per the Authority of Release agreement. Please note that individual product holdings with Suncorp Bank will be dealt with by separate teams, and so, while we'll manage forwarding all of your information to the relevant departements, some of those may contact you separately for clarification or extra information as needed.

Separate teams inside the Bank deal with different products, so whilst our specialist team will be your main point of contact, these other teams may contact you separately for clarification or extra information as required.

The Bank may elect or agree to distribute or receive some documentation and/or information by email. We will require you to complete an email consent form before we can send you any information and documentation.
